I have been expressing my firmly-held opinions on everything from politics to restaurants which my wife (the Lovely Joan) have frequented in the west-central Florida area to cruises we have enjoyed with our many, many grandchildren. I am looking forward to joining the views and opinions expressed by many writers with whom I am familiar and of whom I have the greatest respect and, I admit it, admiration.
That will be the last modest expression that will be uttered in this space!
Right now I am fascinated by the plans and programs suggested by President Obama. I don’t know if they will be successful, whether they will bring our country’s economy around or whether they are, as suggested by those on talk radio, they are doomed to failure.
I do know that the United States has been on a reckless course over the past eight years. We have lost our moral compass, have lost the support and good will of much of the world and have mortgaged our souls and fortune to pursue a war in Iraq. We have undertaken activities that violate the very core of our freedoms and gave away billions upon billions to the supporters of the Republican Party.
Now the President, having inherited this mess, feels it necessary to expend hugh sums to stimulate the economy, to correct the inadequacies left by the previous administration. The President has announced his “blueprint” for the future and, in future posts, I intend to express my take on the issues.
The needs are so great and I hope the American patience is equal to the task.
First step? Obviously the first task is to put people to work. This will stimulate the economy, allow mortgagors to keep their homes, allow the purchase of cars, furniture, food and everything else. The next step is to address a problem that prevents progress on many issues: the need for affordable universal health care. The next piece in this space will focus on health care, the costs of which affect our standing in the world’s marketplace.

Very balanced approach Jim. I too am patiently watching Obama and the actions that he is taking with great interest. I have been a big supporter of his, and I just hope he is taking the right steps. He walked into such a mess, and I am very hopeful that he can help to turn things around.
